There are certain moments in a musician's life that remain unforgettable.
For me, one of those moments came in August 2012, when I had the immense honour of being featured in a three-page article in Guitar Player Brasil, the Brazilian edition of the legendary American magazine Guitar Player.
For decades, Guitar Player has been regarded as one of the most respected publications dedicated to the guitar, featuring many of the world's greatest musicians, innovators and educators. To see my own work recognised in its Brazilian edition was something I could scarcely have imagined when I first picked up a guitar.
The article explored my musical journey, my original compositions, my approach to improvisation and my work as a guitarist. Seeing my music and ideas presented in such a prestigious publication was both humbling and deeply rewarding.
Like many guitarists of my generation, I grew up reading magazines such as Guitar Player, learning from interviews with musicians I admired and discovering new ways of thinking about music. To one day become part of those pages myself felt like coming full circle.
Looking back, I realise that recognition is never the final destination. Instead, it serves as encouragement to keep learning, keep creating and, perhaps most importantly, keep sharing what we have learned with others.
That philosophy has shaped the way I teach today.
Whether I am working with a complete beginner or an experienced professional, my goal is always the same: to help each student develop not only greater technical ability, but also confidence, creativity and their own unique musical voice.
Over the years I have been fortunate to receive recognition through performances, recordings, composition masterclasses and publications such as this. Yet the greatest satisfaction still comes from seeing a student discover something new, play with more freedom or realise that improvisation is far less mysterious than they once believed.
Looking back at this article today fills me with gratitude—not only for the opportunity itself, but for everyone who has been part of my musical journey.
And the journey continues.
